Shane Martin, SE Worship Coordinator
Shane was born and raised in Mississippi where he grew to love Jesus, music, college football and the SEC. He began playing guitar at the age of six, often entertaining his classmates and his community. Shane set his sights on football in high school and set several field goal records and went on to play for Hinds Community College and Mississippi State University. Shane left football behind and moved to Nashville at the age of twenty to pursue his passion for music and also met and fell in love with his beautiful wife, Andrea. His music dreams were realized when he became a songwriter for Sony Music and later Pamplin Music. He toured as a guitar player for artists such as LaRue and SheDaisy, and also played guitar on many recordings for other artists.
After a life of feast and famine as a musician and because of encouragement from his pastor in Nashville, Shane opened his heart to the call to be a worship director. He and his family packed up and moved to Charlotte, North Carolina, in 2005, where Shane served as the worship director at Uptown Church for four years. He has served churches in Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi since leaving Charlotte in 2009, but always hoped to eventually return and make Charlotte their home for good. Shane and his family are excited to be back in Charlotte and truly thankful to be able to live with and among the people of Charlotte, serving and leading God’s people in worship at Hope Community Church. Shane’s vision for ministry is to use his gifts and talents to lead God’s people in biblical, gospel-driven worship that glorifies God, transcends style, edifies the church, and evangelizes the unbeliever through music and the arts.
Shane and Andrea have been married for 16 years and have five children—four girls and one boy. He is passionate and fun-loving, enjoys good music, reading, writing, learning about Eastern European culture, airplanes, and apologetics. After losing over 80lbs. on a plant based diet, Shane loves to cook and share his passion for healthy eating with others and, yes, he loves to host vegan dinner parties.
Shane has been greatly influenced by Tim Keller, John Calvin, Martin Luther, Charles Spurgeon, John Piper, Jonathan Edwards, Michael Horton and C.S. Lewis. He loves spending time with his family, playing golf, running, watching college football (don’t even bother calling during football season … seriously), writing songs, playing music, and reading. Shane loves the Andy Griffith Show and is the self-proclaimed, “World’s Biggest Fan”.
