Matt Hultquist, South End Deacon

Matt was raised in the suburbs of New York City and is a graduate of Wake Forest University and Columbia Business School. Matt felt called to move south to Charlotte in 2017, and through God’s grace, he quickly found Hope as his church home. In 2017 he met the love of his life, Emily, at a Discovering Hope membership class, and they married in 2018.

Matt first heard the Gospel at age 31 when his friend invited him to hear Tim Keller preach at Redeemer Presbyterian in New York City. The Lord also used Telemachus, a national Christian mentoring ministry, to connect Matt to several Hope families, which ultimately led him to Charlotte. Other influences on his faith and story include Generous Giving, The Halftime Institute, The Charlotte Fellows, The Barnabas Center, and the teaching and community of Hope.

Matt and Emily have two young boys, Jack and James, who bring a lot of joy (and noise) to the family. Vocationally, Matt serves as the Managing Member of Hillandale Advisors, an investment and advisory firm that provides strategic counsel and capital to business owners. Matt enjoys playing golf, meeting with fellow business owners and investors, and encouraging young leaders.
