Hope Community Church: Ministry Internship Program

We are excited to announce the Hope Community Church: Ministry Internship Program. This program will focus on training the next generation of ministry leaders in how to be real people, looking to the real Jesus for real change in their own lives and in ministry. Our focus is on developing future church planters and women’s ministry directors.

Module One: A (January - May)

Entering into Healthy Community

  • Marriage Counseling at The Barnabas Center, paid for by Hope
  • Read Emotionally Healthy Spirituality by Pete Scazzero and discuss at monthly meeting with mentor
  • Join a Hope Community Group
  • Attend Community Group Leader Training
  • Attend and observe weekly Sermon Meetings and monthly All-Staff Meeting

Module One: B (June - August)

Spiritual Formation

  • Meet for monthly Spiritual Direction – will continue throughout program
  • Read Sacred Rhythms by Ruth Haley Barton and discuss at monthly meetings with mentor
  • Develop a Rule of Life
  • Generous Complementarity Teaching
  • Monthly meeting with Supervisor/Site Pastor mentor
  • Help with South End Summer Study or Olde Providence Summer Study
  • 5 hours/week other duties as needed by Hope
  • Attend and observe weekly Sermon Meetings and monthly All-Staff Meeting
  • Discuss how to minister to singles
  • Initiate Presbytery Internship at August Meeting of Presbytery (if required)
  • Initiate Seminary Internship (if required)

Module Two: A (September - December)

Christ and the Culture/Evangelism

  • Discuss the importance of vulnerability in preaching
  • Begin preaching at Hope and teaching Men’s Bible Study
  • Read Tim Keller’s Center Church and discuss with mentor
  • Find something to do for fun with non-Christians with no agenda
  • Attend Hope Officer Training
  • Continue Spiritual Direction
  • Attend Session and Guest Meeting
  • Attend Care Team Meeting
  • Become an Apprentice Community Group Leader
  • 5 hours/week other duties as needed by Hope
  • Attend Presbytery Meeting
  • Monthly Meeting with Supervisor/Site Pastor where you discuss one of the twelve topics covered in your RTS Internship Field Ed Guide (if required)

Module Two: B (January - July)

Gospel Centered Pastoral Leadership/Church Planting Focus

  • Read Leading with a Limp by Dan Allender
  • Leading out of Weakness/Power Dynamics/Self Awareness in Leadership
  • Assist a Deacon on a mercy case and attend a Deacon Meeting
  • Work with Site Worship Staff person to plan a worship service
  • Determine Spiritual Gifting and Hope Ministry Focus
  • Continue as an Apprentice Community Group Leader
  • Begin supervised pastoral counseling with couples at Hope
  • Continue preaching and teaching
  • Join in on a Premarital Counseling Session with Mentor
  • Help with South End Summer Study or Olde Providence Summer Study
  • 5 hours/week other duties as needed by Hope
