Worship In Song : Song List for Each
PREPARE YOUR HEART FOR WORSHIP ON JANUARY 14, 2018
REFLECTION
“You will never know that Jesus is all you need until Jesus is all you’ve got.”
~Mother Teresa
“Rather than depressing you, all of the death and impermanence around you is meant to open your eyes and inform your heart. It is meant to call you away from the delusion that this life is all there is and that you can find your identity, meaning, and purpose, and your deepest inner sense of well being from things that so quickly die.”
~Paul David Tripp, Forever
WORSHIP IN SONG :: THE WONDERFUL CROSS
When I survey the wondrous cross
On which the Prince of Glory died
My richest gain I count but loss
And pour contempt on all my pride
See from His head His hands His feet
Sorrow and love flow mingled down
Did e’er such love and sorrow meet
Or thorns compose so rich a crown
O the wonderful cross, O the wonderful cross
Bids me come and die and find that I may truly live
O the wonderful cross, O the wonderful cross
All who gather here by grace draw near and bless Your name
Were the whole realm of nature mine
That were an offering far too small
Love so amazing so divine
Demands my soul, my life my all
GOD CALLS US TO WORSHIP :: PSALMS 63:3
[3] Because your steadfast love is better than life,
my lips will praise you. (ESV)
CONFESSION OF FAITH ~
:: WESTMINSTER SHORTER CATECHISM, Q. 1 ::
WSC Q. 1. What is the chief end of man?
WSC A. Man’s chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy him forever.
:: HEIDELBERG CATECHISM, Q. 1 ::
HC Q. 1. What is your only comfort in life and in death?
HC A. That I am not my own, but belong—body and soul, in life and in death—to my faithful Savior, Jesus Christ. He has fully paid for all my sins with his precious blood, and has set me free from the tyranny of the devil. He also watches over me in such a way that not a hair can fall from my head without the will of my Father in heaven; in fact, all things must work together for my salvation. Because I belong to him, Christ, by his Holy Spirit, assures me of eternal life and makes me wholeheartedly willing and ready from now on to live for him.
GOD’S WORD PROCLAIMED :: PHILIPPIANS 1:12-26
The Advance of the Gospel
[12] I want you to know, brothers, that what has happened to me has really served to advance the gospel, [13] so that it has become known throughout the whole imperial guard and to all the rest that my imprisonment is for Christ. [14] And most of the brothers, having become confident in the Lord by my imprisonment, are much more bold to speak the word without fear.
[15] Some indeed preach Christ from envy and rivalry, but others from good will. [16] The latter do it out of love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel. [17] The former proclaim Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely but thinking to afflict me in my imprisonment. [18] What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is proclaimed, and in that I rejoice.
To Live Is Christ
Yes, and I will rejoice, [19] for I know that through your prayers and the help of the Spirit of Jesus Christ this will turn out for my deliverance, [20] as it is my eager expectation and hope that I will not be at all ashamed, but that with full courage now as always Christ will be honored in my body, whether by life or by death. [21] For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. [22] If I am to live in the flesh, that means fruitful labor for me. Yet which I shall choose I cannot tell. [23] I am hard pressed between the two. My desire is to depart and be with Christ, for that is far better. [24] But to remain in the flesh is more necessary on your account. [25] Convinced of this, I know that I will remain and continue with you all, for your progress and joy in the faith, [26] so that in me you may have ample cause to glory in Christ Jesus, because of my coming to you again. (ESV)
